Side-scan Sonar
ESI INC. uses the latest in Side-scan Sonar and GPR technology, which produces
underground cross-sectional images of the soils, groundwater, and subsurface features.

Side-scan sonar was carefully engineered to look through the water sideways. While being
towed through water, it is simultaneously scanning in all directions to produce an accurate
and detailed image of whatever may be below the surface. Side-scan sonar can search at
ranges up to 500 meters on either side of the unit. For smaller objects, a shorter-range scale
(5 to 500 meters) can be used to obtain the highest resolution pictures.

Side-scan Sonar Environmental Applications
Our Side Scan Sonar services can reach an underwater depth of 1000 feet. Like the GPR,
Side-scan Sonar prints a full image, detailing all underwater conditions. Side-scan Sonar is
very helpful for inspections of seawalls and other shore side structures. Saving on very
expensive diving surveys, our underwater cameras can also make video recordings for later
review. All data is processed in our on-site computerized mobile unit for all weather
operations.

ESI also has air flotation capabilities of 100 tons.
