Side-scan Sonar for Law Enforcement Use

Items of importance are lost underwater on a daily basis. Such items may include evidence
of a crime, cars, boats, planes, ship cargo, and hazardous waste barrels and unfortunately
the drowning victims. Law enforcement personnel are routinely expected to locate and
recover such items in a timely manner. The high resolution and precision of side-scan sonar
enables a faster and easier water investigation... Even in zero visibility!

of side scan sonar For locating victims
underwater.

The use of sonar has been the standardized method for years in searching for lost ships,
submarines, and underwater wreckage, like the Titanic, The Bismark, The US Submarine
Thresher and US Aircraft Carrier Yorktown.

Until recently, sonar has not been considered capable of imaging smaller objects. With new
sonar technology (a combination of medical ultrasound and sonar), the ability to image
drowning victims in even the poorest visibility is now a reality!

Underwater searches are time consuming and expensive. When utilizing divers, large
numbers of support staff are required to search in even the smallest areas. Often, searches
are delayed or interrupted until visibility improves due to unfavorable weather conditions or
the loss of daylight. The best way to see underwater is with sound! Even the brightest lights
underwater yield only a few feet of visibility. However, side-scan sonar can detect
underwater items day or night!

Electronic Subsurface Imaging (ESI) is available to law enforcement agencies on a 24-hour
on-call basis. Our sonar equipment is portable and ready for all types of emergency
deployment. We are also available for emergency drills and training demonstrations. For
